Review

In 2005, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie starred in a movie that captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. It was a movie that had an excellent storyline, amazing cast, and brilliant production. The name of this movie was “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” and it was directed by Doug Liman.

The premise of the movie is simple: John Smith (Brad Pitt) and Jane Smith (Angelina Jolie) are two highly skilled assassins who work for rival agencies. They are both unaware of each other’s profession until they are assigned to take out the same target. When they find out, they must navigate their marriage while trying to kill each other.

One of the most fascinating things about Mr. & Mrs. Smith is how it captures the essence of a “marriage”. Malcolm Gladwell in his book “Blink” talks about how one can pick up on social cues even before processing them consciously using our intuition or gut-feelings; and this movie was a perfect display of this concept.

The chemistry between Brad and Angelina was too natural that the audience could sense it with their intuition even before knowing for certain that they were romantically linked in reality as well.

The casting is also worth mentioning because both Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie delivered masterful performances in their respective roles as John Smith and Jane Smith. Their chemistry felt natural, charismatic, and electric on screen.

But casting is not everything! The script itself should be compelling enough to nail it, right?

I certainly agree! And if we talk about “script” we cannot deny mentioning Simon Kinberg’s contribution to this masterpiece.

He gave us a storyline that was not only entertaining but also captivating from beginning to end. His writing style was quick-witted, humorous yet cleverly executed with well-timed action scenes interspersed throughout the plot.

One particular scene comes to mind where Brad Pitt’s character John creates a diversion to buy time from Angelina’s character Jane. The scene was executed beautifully where the viewer felt the humor and yet sensed the danger lurking in the background. Kinberg’s writing made this scene stand out as one of the best in the entire movie.

Another aspect that was notable was its ability to attract an audience from different backgrounds, genders, and age groups. It appealed to both action lovers and rom-com aficionados alike.

The popularity of Mr. & Mrs. Smith can also be attributed to its ability to tap into something primordial within all humans—the idea of living a double life. The thrill of having a secret life is something that people cannot resist, which is why this movie resonated with so many audiences worldwide.

Not to mention that it was also interesting how Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s personal lives intertwined with their roles in this movie; after all, they both fell in love on set during filming.

The production team also deserves credit for their work on Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The cinematography by Bojan Bazelli is visually stunning with its use of color grading techniques that reinforce the mood of each scene. The soundtrack by John Powell is memorable, particularly his use of guitar riffs during action scenes.

On top of that, some special effects used were groundbreaking for their time; like the car chase scenes where we can see cars crashing into each other without any visible CGI effect being applied.

However, no matter how good a movie might be there will always be critics who can never seem to appreciate anything! In this case, some critics pointed out that it lacked depth or meaning; arguing it was just another generic Hollywood action-comedy flick with little substance beneath its surface.

But honestly speaking, sometimes it’s not always about depth or any hidden messages; sometimes we just want a good entertaining film to escape reality for two hours! And Mr. & Mrs. Smith definitely delivered on that front.

It’s clear that Mr. & Mrs. Smith has cemented its place in pop culture history. Its impact is still being felt today, with many people continuing to watch, love, and quote it.

In conclusion, Mr. & Mrs. Smith was a testament to how a movie can be entertaining while still having clever writing, brilliant acting, and excellent production work; it was a perfect blend of humor and action that kept audiences engaged from start to finish.

This movie will always remain one of the most popular movies of all time, and for good reason! So let’s take a moment to appreciate the masterpiece that is Mr. & Mrs. Smith as we continue to reminisce about this classic Hollywood gem.
