2 Guns: A Fiery Action-Packed Story of Betrayal and Revenge
If you’re a fan of action movies, 2 Guns is one film you do not want to miss. This 2013 American action comedy film has everything that makes an action movie worth spending your time and money on – a star-studded cast, an intriguing storyline, witty dialogue, explosive actions scenes and memorable characters.
Based on the graphic novel of the same name by Steven Grant, 2 Guns follows the story of DEA agent Bobby Trench (Denzel Washington) and U.S. Naval Intelligence Officer Michael Stigman (Mark Wahlberg), two undercover agents who are tasked with infiltrating a Mexican drug cartel led by Papi Greco (Edward James Olmos).
The two agents have their own agendas – Trench wants to take down Greco and Stigman wants to clear his name after being framed for stealing millions from Greco’s organization.
As they carry out their investigation, Trench and Stigman find themselves at crossroads, wondering if they can trust each other in their mission to bring down the cartel. Unbeknownst to either one of them, there’s more than meets the eye in this operation.
Despite the cliché plotline of good guys vs bad guys, this movie delivers some fresh twists that keep you on edge throughout its 109-minute runtime.
Directed by Icelandic filmmaker Baltasar Kormákur, 2 Guns showcases his ability to capture explosive actions scenes while still managing to keep it fun with a healthy dose of humor injected into the script.
The chemistry between Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg is palpable throughout the film. Their witty banter helps break up tense moments in the script while still maintaining an authentic dynamic between their characters.
Not only does 2 Guns feature some impressive acting performances from its leads, but it also boasts quite an impressive cast with great supporting roles from the likes of Paula Patton, Bill Paxton, and James Marsden.
One key aspect of this film that makes it stand out is its score and popularity. The catchy soundtrack features some great tracks by artists such as Boom Boom Satellites, Outkast, and Chali 2na which made it an instant hit with audiences.
Additionally, the film’s box office earnings proved its popularity as it grossed over $131 million worldwide against a budget of $61 million, making it a commercial success.
When it comes to cinematography and special effects, 2 Guns does not disappoint. The action scenes are well-choreographed and executed flawlessly. From car chases to shootouts in abandoned warehouses or on Mexican highways, each sequence is thrilling enough to leave you at the edge of your seat.
The movie also delivers some memorable one-liners fans still quote today like “I’m not a member of any organization” and “There’s no health care plan for being a hero.”
Despite its overall success, 2 Guns did receive some criticism for its heavy reliance on clichés. Some critics also noted that the plotline could have been better developed to make the story more nuanced.
However, these criticisms do not entirely diminish this film’s achievements. Kormákur successfully created an engaging movie that takes viewers on a pulse-pounding ride with twists and turns at every corner.
Overall, 2 Guns remains a must-see action-comedy flick that both fans of the genre and those looking for an entertaining night out will enjoy watching again and again. Its explosive action scenes coupled with great acting performances make it a worthy addition to any movie collection.
