The forest is a place where one can get lost in, both physically and mentally. It can be enchanting and scary all at the same time. In the movie “Into The Forest” directed by Patricia Rozema, this duality of the forest is explored with breathtaking cinematography and an immersive storyline.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world where electricity has ceased to exist, two sisters Nell (Ellen Page) and Eva (Evan Rachel Wood) are forced to survive in their isolated family cabin in the woods. The sisters have different personalities; Nell is studious and introverted while Eva is outgoing and rebellious. The script, adapted from Jean Hegland’s novel of the same name, delves deep into their relationship as they grapple with survival in a barren world.
The movie starts with Nell studying for her exams while Eva is out partying with her friends. Suddenly, the power goes out, and chaos ensues as they realize that the world they knew has come to an end. The first half of the movie explores their struggles to adjust to this new reality.
